Before Congress went on vacation, it failed to fund the FAA. As a result, the FAA says 130 Californians working on capital improvement projects have been furloughed and several dozen other employees in management and support areas have also been furloughed. That includes five employees at Sacramento International Airport.
Others, like airport certification inspectors are working … but aren't getting paid.
And then there are the air traffic controllers and flight standard inspectors who are working and who are getting paid.
The FAA has issued 24 million dollars in grants to California
airports for capital improvement projects. A spokeswoman from
the Sacramento International Airport says the new terminal project
has not been interrupted. The Oakland Airport put the
brakes on its control tower project last week.
