John Shirey becomes Sacramento's 5th city manager in the last six-years. He previously held the same post in Cincinnati.
After the vote, Shirey thanked council members:
SHIREY: "I look forward to working with all of you. I think that we can do great things for this city. You won't be disappointed that you appointed me. I'm going to work hard but I'm going to work with you."
Mayor Johnson was not happy with how the search for a city
manager went. He told reporters earlier this week that he would've
preferred to see the council "reboot" the process and start
over.
Johnson said none of the 30 candidates for the job were
"innovative" or "dynamic" and none have had economic redevelopment
track records.
