The smoke could be seen for miles and is still billowing into the air. The Sac Metro, Sacramento, and West Sacramento Fire departments responded with multiple trucks to try to knock down the fire.
Fire crews expect the fire will take several more hours to knock down.
Traffic in the area was being diverted, but no evacuations have been ordered.
From the Sacramento Police Department:
Avoid eastbound Richards Blvd from I-5.
Currently there is a backup to get cars from e/b Richards Blvd onto northbound Sequoia Pacific.
All traffic is closed westbound Richards Blvd at Hwy 160 /Sunbeam.
Workers and residents in the immediate area are being asked to shelter in place due to the smoke in the area.
