Police Ask For Help Stopping Vandalism At Summer's End

Sacramento Police Department Lieutenant Kathy Lester says they are stepping up patrols this weekend.

LESTER: "Sometimes we get kids on campuses that are sort of trying to make their mark and we see an increase in graffiti, vandalism, even down to basically t-p-ing schools, whatever they can do to kind of get a reaction the first day of school"

Police are asking those who live near schools to pay extra attention this weekend to anything suspicious.

LESTER: "The schools cannot afford to have to pay the damages from graffiti or vandalism.  School budgets are already tight and for every act of vandalism or damage we have, that's actually taking money away from the kids."

Lester says there should be no activity on school grounds after dark.  If you see or hear anything on school grounds, she asks that you notify law enforcement.
