Gregory Howard is looking for leads at a job fair held in
Sacramento. He used to be a manager at Home Depot.
"As I'm getting older I'm finding out it's even more
competitive out here and the jobs that are available, you have a
pool of 300-400 people that are applying for one
position."
Employment analysts say there are new jobs out there but not
in retail or construction. Jordan Levine is with the research firm
Beacon Economics.
"One of the problems is the sectors that are seeing the job
growth, and are really leading us out of this recession are ones
that, unfortunately, a lot of the folks in California who lost
their jobs during the downturn, won't be able to take advantage
of."
…those job-growth sectors include science, healthcare and
technology.
Levine says a skills mismatch is slowing California's job
recovery.
The state's unemployment rate is expected to stay in
double-digits through the end of next year.
