Lightning Poses Fire Danger

Roseville's Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Carman says lightning isn't that unusual for the foothills this time of year.

"…except this particularly lightning series is predicted to come west, into the lower elevations."

…as low as 500-feet where grasses and brush are dry.

Carman says mix that with high north winds and low-humidity, which are also in the forecast, and you've got a perfect storm of fire conditions.

Carman is urging people to take precautions.

"If you're mowing the lawn be careful of the lawnmower blade hitting rocks. Don't let your car idle over grass or other combustible materials. And if you see smoke or see a fire, don't take the time to investigate it, call 911."

The high fire danger is forecast to end tomorrow night when the lightning is expected to be accompanied by rain.
