About 17,000 nurses are expected to participate in the daylong walkout on September 22nd.
The strike will affect Kaiser facilities in Sacramento, Roseville, Stockton, Modesto, Vacaville and 13 other Northern California cities.
Deborah Burger is with the California Nurses Association.
She says the walkout will be in support of Kaiser psychologists, optometrists and social workers who are members of the National Union of Healthcare Workers currently in contract talks with the hospital.
"We as nurses would fight for anybody's right to have healthcare coverage and a decent retirement in dignity."
In a statement, Kaiser's Senior Vice President for Human Resources says hospital officials are bargaining in good faith with NUHW.
