Sacramento County planners are looking at overhauling Fair Oaks Boulevard…Carmichael's main thoroughfare...with a strong focus on pedestrians and bicycles.
Yesterday, the County Board of Supervisors tentatively approved a redevelopment plan for the stretch between Marconi Avenue and Carmichael Park.
Tricia Stevens is a county planner. She says if the plan gets final approval…the next step would be to go after grant funding.
"If we do receive the grant that we're hoping to get then we could see some construction on the street portions of it within the next couple of years or so."
Next month, supervisors are scheduled to take a final vote on the plan's zoning changes that would allow for what's known as "mixed-use"…or both residential and retail development.
