Forum Aims To Ease Anger Over Water Rate Hikes

Davis Mayor Joe Krovoza says he and other city council members have gotten an earful from people about the rate hikes approved earlier this month.

"The council gets it - but on the other hand we don't think that we have many choices."

Davis currently depends on well water which is high in minerals. The city plans to get its water instead from the Sacramento River. That'll help Davis avoid penalties if it doesn't meet a state-mandate to improve water quality.

"We're facing fines in 2017 and we're paying to fix wells that we're not going to use long term, so it's a tough time to do it, but it's also an opportunistic time."

"Opportunistic" because he says it's a good time to get low construction costs to build new pipelines and a new water treatment plant.

The forum will be at the city's Community Chambers on Russell Boulevard. It's starts at 7 PM.
