Rancho Cordova Tries To Block Aerojet's Requested Zip Code Change

Aerojet wants to build a new housing and commercial development in an unincorporated part of Sacramento County, south of Folsom Boulevard and east of Hazel Avenue. Tim Murphy is with the Aerospace company.

"We've had conversations with postmasters in both Rancho Cordova and Folsom and we've been told that no single post office has the capacity to address the future growth."

Aerojet is asking the Postal Service to change the zip code of a portion of the development. The new zip code would put the project in Folsom.

Rancho Cordova's Vice Mayor David Sander says the request is treacherous.

"I think it's fair to say it's a stab in the back."

Sander says putting a new development in Folsom would hurt Rancho Cordova's community renewal efforts. The city is asking people who live in Rancho Cordova to write letters to the Postal Service...

"…and ask them to block the Aerojet theft of our zip code."

The U.S. Postal Service is expected to make a decision in about a month.
