Brown approved a bill placing all future ballot measures on November general elections. It also shifts a vote on a rainy day fund that was part of last year's budget deal from next year to 2014. Democrats and unions pushed for the bill. They would likely benefit from a more friendly voter base than in primary elections. But Republicans reacted in fury. Senate GOP Leader Bob Dutton says the measure breaks a budget agreement and shows Democrats have no intention of working in a bipartisan manner.
That bill is just one of the 57 Brown signed. He also approved online voter registration and a ban on the controversial practice of shark finning. Among his 17 vetoes: several changes to the state's workers' compensation system and tight new rules on paid signature gatherers.
Brown's office says he has around 230 more bills to act on by midnight Sunday.
