Right now, the speed limit is 35 miles-per-hour in the city of South Lake Tahoe and 50 miles-per-hour in the Meyers area. In recent months, construction has added to traffic delays.
Deanna Shoopman at Caltrans says they're reviewing the speed limits between Stateline and Meyers.
"Based on the findings of the studies, we will propose to either increase or retain the speed limit at various locations on U.S. Highway 50 from the Stateline clear to the Myers area.
South Lake Tahoe police Chief Brian Uhler says he has mixed feelings about the possibility of faster traffic along the South Shore's main artery.
Uhler says public safety is the obvious concern. But he also understands the desire to get from place to place quicker.
