Sacramento City Council members last night directed staff to seek funding for a feasibility study to identify preferred river crossing locations.

City Councilwoman Angelique Ashby:

"We need to study all of our options because we need to be sure that at the end we have covered all of our bases. This will help us with jobs, it'll help us with economic development, it will help us with public safety."

The feasibility study is estimated to cost between $600,000 and $800,000.

City officials say the river crossings will be "friendly" to adjacent neighborhoods with the primary function of local interconnections rather than commuter bridges designed for heavy traffic.
