For the next month, Elk Grove is accepting requests for speed control devices.

"That would be anything from a speed bump to a speed table to signing and striping."

Christine Brainerd is Elk Grove's Public Information Officer. She says the city's speed control program lets people nominate and vote on streets to receive traffic calming measures.

"In just the last year alone more than 30 streets in Elk Grove were approved for traffic calming measures through the speed control program."

Brainerd says Public Works staff use a set of criteria when deciding whether bumps should be added to a street…including traffic volume and adjacent land use.

She points out the number of streets that ultimately get bumps and other devices installed will depend on available funding next fiscal year.

November 23rd is the deadline to submit requests.
