The money comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Kathleen Stewart is with the EPA's Pacific Southwest region.

"We are awarding more than $357,000 in grants to protect children's health in our region which includes California's Central Valley."

The bulk of the money will go to three organizations, including Californians for Pesticide Reform.

"They received $98,000 to monitor and address environmental health hazards ranging from pesticide applications to lead and mold in housing in Kern and Tulare counties."

A UC Berkeley-based program will also get $99,999 to expand health education in farm worker communities, such as updating prenatal health kiosks.
