Striped Bass Fishing Rules May Change

If you fish for striped bass, you'd be able to catch more of them under the planned rules.

"We're proposing to raise the daily bag limit from the present 2 fish to 6 fish."

Marty Gingras is with the state Department of Fish and Game. He says anglers would also be able to catch and keep smaller striped bass and they'd be able to fish in waterways that were off limits in the past.

"We're proposing these changes in hopes that anglers will take more striped bass and as a consequence striped bass will eat fewer listed fish..."

…that would be the Endangered Species list. But some anglers don't like the proposed changes. They worry that loosening the rules could endanger striped bass.

A workshop on the proposed changes will be held at the Rio Vista City Hall Tuesday at 7 PM. The state Fish and Game Commission will consider the proposal next month.
