The wind advisory has prompted CalFire to put more firefighters and fire engines on duty. CalFire's Daniel Berlant says the region is at an increased risk for fires.

"Much like what we saw a week ago in Reno, it doesn't take much, even if you have cooler temperatures and a little bit of rain, for a fire of big magnitude to take off when you have significant winds."

Johnny Powell is a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. He says what makes this windstorm different is - there's no rain with it.

"It's unusual to have this strong of winds with this type of system."

Powell says besides fire danger, the winds can cause other problems:

"High-profile vehicles going over the (Yolo) Causeway, some people still have their lawn furniture out it might blow it away, or a few trees and power lines."

Powell expects the winds to die down by Thursday night.
