Weather forecasters say the winds will make travel hazardous for people driving motor homes and big rigs.

Mike Wofford is with the National Weather Service in Los Angeles. He points out - the uncommonly strong winds come on the heels of last month's major windstorm.

"This is the time of year when we get these kind of Santa Ana winds. But it's been a little more frequent and the strength has been a little stronger. So in that sense it's been somewhat unusual, yes."

The north winds are expected to continue through early Friday as a high pressure system builds over the Great Basin.

Just three-weeks ago a windstorm in Southern California spawned gusts approaching 100 mph; trees were toppled, power poles snapped, homes were damaged and electricity was cut to nearly 650,000 homes and business.
