While some of us will enjoy a glass of holiday champagne or eggnog, the state Finance Department has its own beverage of choice this time of year.

"Red Bull is probably a staple for most of our staff…"

That's Spokesman H.D. Palmer who explains this is crunch time-when people work almost around the clock to put the finishing touches on the Governor's budget proposal.

"Just about all the decisions have been made, we've gotta cross some t's and dot some i's on a couple of particular areas. But for those that are ready to go, we've already begun the process of putting together the budget schedules, getting the numbers into the system."

The budget proposal must be submitted to the legislature no later than January tenth.
Governor Jerry Brown already announced a billion dollars in mid-year cuts earlier this month-and said billions more are on the way.
