Johnson and other mayors in the state are hoping they can get legislation passed that would give back some of the funding. Last week the state supreme court ruled the state could eliminate redevelopment agencies and take the money for the education budget.
JOHNSON: "Redevelopment certainly allows us to create jobs and take properties and put them on the tax roll and bring them on the tax roll which creates revenue to be able to do even more projects especially in blighted communities.
Johnson says Del Paso, Oak Park, Meadowview and K Street have all improved with redevelopment funding. He says even without funding, K Street redevelopment will continue with some sort of public private partnership.
