Turlock farmer Ron Macedo raises almonds and corn. He says the dry weather is hurting another crop he grows: oats for cattle feed.  

"The oats are suffering out there. They really need some moisture. They're just kind of sitting there and not really doing a whole lot."

Macedo also sits on the Turlock Irrigation District board. He says they're already looking at filling irrigation canals…something that doesn't usually happen until March. 

"I joke with people about doing the rain dance but it doesn't seem to be working."

It's been about two months since any significant rain fell in the region and University of California farm advisor Glen Nader says farmers are worried.

"As each week goes by without rain it intensifies the drought potentials for agriculture."

Nader says if it doesn't rain in the next couple of weeks, rangeland grasses that cattle and sheep graze on could be lost.
