Sacramento Metropolitan Assistant Chief Scott Cockrum says 14 trash cans, rubbage piles, and dumpsters were intentionally set on fire between New Year's Eve and Wednesday morning. Four of the fires were started near the Elkhorn/Walerga area.
COCKRUM: "There's six of them that occurred in the Carmichael area that are not only confirmed as arson, but are confirmed as being linked, due to the kind of geographical area in which they were located and the quick time element in which they happened. They all happened within a short time element."
Cockrum says the circumstances of the fires would have allowed one person on bicycle or in a car to have time to set them. He also says there was a similar case a year-and-a-half ago where a number of fires were set in a short time frame..and then nothing.
