What started as a way to bring a little extra business to
downtown Sacramento restaurants in the winter has turned into a
pretty big deal.
The promotion was started to bring people out to eat during
one of the slowest times of the year. Seven years later,
Megan Emmerling with Sacramento's Downtown Partnership says the
promotion has turned into a million-dollar-a-year event that also
boosts parking revenue and sales tax revenue for the city.
The ingredients for the promotion: 30 restaurants serving
dinner for 30 bucks.
EMMERLING: "It gives diners a chance to try full, three-course menus at a really reasonable price for three courses. And if they go with a friend or several friends, that allows them to taste six-to-nine different items that might be on that menu and really get a feel for all of the great things that that restaurant has to offer."
Restaurant week might be due for a name change. It
actually runs for 10 days from today through January 18 and five of
the participating restaurants are not technically downtown.
