Frank Mosbacher with the Forest Service says air quality
conditions…and dry weather have forced crews to delay burning 1100
acres along the Mormon Emigrant Trail.
MOSBACHER: "Our fuels people are saying that it's dry enough now that we may have too hot a fire burn. So, it would be out of what we call, 'prescription.'"
Mosbacher says crews had been hopeful they could clear out the
underbrush and fire fuel at the 6000-foot level, but believe they
will now have to wait awhile.
Typically the area is under several feet of snow at this time
of year.
CalFire says crews have responded to almost 50 more fires this
year compared to January of last year. In many places,
outdoor burns have been suspended until further notice.
