The 10,700 jobs California added in December put the state's overall gain for the year 2011 at 240,000 jobs.  That helped the statewide unemployment rate drop all the way from 12.4 percent at the start of last year to 11.1 percent now.  And to Loree Levy with California's Employment Development Department, the new numbers are further proof the state's economy is on the rebound.

Levy: "It's been a long haul since the end of the recession, and we've got a long ways to go to make up all of those jobs lost.  But when you're averaging now more than 20,000 jobs a month - certainly, in the latter half of 2011 - that's a good place to start.  And we'll look to see those numbers start increasing in the months ahead."

Levy says eight of the state's 11 major industry sectors gained jobs over the last year.
