Dr. Olivia Kasirye is currently the Health Officer for El Dorado County.
But she hopes to make to the switch to Sacramento County next month.
KASIRYE: "I think it's a very exciting opportunity."
Kasirye says obesity, sexually transmitted diseases and racial health disparities are problems in Sacramento.
She says strategic planning will be essential to deal with the county's diminished health budget.
KASIRYE: "...That's when you have an opportunity to re-evaluate what are the core functions of public health, what programs do we need to focus on, and where can we... you know what are the priorities in the community. Because of course you realize when you don't have a lot of money that you can't do everything, so you have to look at what you are able to do."
The county board of supervisors will consider her nomination February 7th.
