"One in the Birney-Hat Creek Basins Project in California as well as the Amador-Calaveras Consensus Group Cornerstone Project in California…those two projects, about $1.4 million being provided as part of the 10 new projects that we're funding."

The Amador-Calaveras project covers both the El Dorado and Stanislaus national forests…while the Birney-Hat Creek project is in Lassen County…in the northeastern part of the state.

Vilsack says the restoration projects are designed to protect forests and watershed from various threats…whether it be wildfire, bark beetles or a changing climate.

He also says restoration will stimulate local economies by retaining and increasing other forest-related jobs.
