The programs that receive the money promise to place more than 100 homeless in transitional housing.  The director of the Sacramento Steps Forward non-profit is Ben Burton.  He is heading a lot of the area's homeless efforts.

BURTON:  "It's really gonna benefit, particularly people who have mental health issues and veterans who are coming back home -the veterans in our community.  We also got some money for our homeless management information system."

Burton says the management system should help Sacramento's 33 existing homeless programs be more efficient and effective.

The Federal Government recently renewed $15 million in funding for those programs.

Sacramento County houses more than 3,000 men, women and children nightly.
