UC Davis School of Law Dean Kevin Johnson says this kind of training allows students to start learning immigration law while giving back to the community.
"We often end up participate in proceedings attempting to stop removal of immigrants from the United States. And, it seems to us that one way of helping the immigrant community before they end up getting in any trouble is to try to get their paperwork in order so they can naturalize and become U.S. Citizens. "
Johnson says the law school holds several citizenship clinics for immigrants each year.
He hopes to have several dozen people take advantage of the clinic this Saturday.
