The Red Cross quickly started searching for a place for the evacuees to go. The agency didn't have look far.
The Prescott Church welcomed fleeing residents along with public safety and law enforcement officers in need of something to eat or drink or simply take a break.
By nine o'clock last night dozens of families realized they were going to be spending the night at the church.
Pastor Russ Cantu says with the help of the Red Cross and local donations, the church was able to accommodate dozens of families.
"We have our entire sanctuary right now that is cleared out, filled up with cots, beds, pillows. We have families here with their little ones. We have people here with their pets."
Pastor Cantu says the church's doors will remain open as long as
the situation warrants.
