George Maloof, Mayor Kevin Johnson and their staffs met for three hours Thursday at City Hall. The Mayor called the meeting "productive" and said both sides would meet again Friday morning.
JOHNSON: "We as a city want a deal downtown. They are saying they as a family, and as a team want a deal downtown. The big question is: can what we came up with in Orlando serve as a way to get a deal. And, again, that is what the discussions are."
Johnson says the City better understands the Maloofs' concerns about the arena funding deal negotiated in March -on their behalf by the NBA. The Kings' owners backed out of the deal two weeks ago.
The Mayor believes a deal must be done within the next two weeks in order to meet the deadline of opening day for the 2015 NBA season.
