The Department of Water Resources is now estimating the State Water Project will deliver 65-percent of requested water this year.
That's up from a 60-percent allocation announced last month.
DWR says the increase is due to a wetter than usual April.
Last year, a wet winter allowed the project to deliver 80-percent of requested water; but DWR calls this year's allocation quote "not unusually low."
He says most farmers already decided how many crops to plant earlier in the spring…but the extra allocation is still beneficial.
Kranz "The additional water from the State Water Project will help those farmers in terms of having an additional supply of this high quality Sierra snowmelt runoff to help them keep their crops growing through the summer."
Kranz says the water from the project is both higher quality and also …for some farmers …less expensive.
