About 390,000 Californians intend to fly over the holiday weekend - a drop of 5.2% from last year. That's even though air travel is a little cheaper right now.

Cynthia Harris is with the car club AAA of Northern California which took the poll.

"We're averaging the lowest round-trip rate for approximately $189 for top U.S. air routes, now this is a 7% lower cost than last year. So the airfares have come down slightly."

Automobiles are by far the preferred mode of transportation…3.5 million Californians will be driving.

All totaled, 4.2 million Californians plan to travel 50 miles or more - up only 1.5% from last year.

"It's not a huge increase but it is significant in the sense that we're not having a decrease like we have shown in years past."

Top three favorite activities this weekend according to the poll are: visiting family and friends, going to the beach and dining.
