It's a busy time of year at this US Army recruiting center in Sacramento as many potential candidates graduate high school.

This year, Army recruiters say they can be more selective about whom they recruit.

Captain James Grymes is a Company Commander.

He says part of the reason is a 12 percent unemployment rate.

GRYMES: "we have a conflict overseas that's drawing down, coupled with an unemployment rate it really does provide us with the opportunity to focus on the best qualified people."

Grymes says his company enlists 30 to 50 young men and women a month from the Sacramento area.

But he says fewer than one in four candidates qualifies for the Army.
