The state Senate passed a bill that would close loopholes
allowing lawmakers to accept gifts from people or organizations
with business before the legislature.
That would include specific entertainment gifts like tickets
to theaters, concerts or sporting events.
The Senate also passed legislation that would modernize
Cal-Access, which is the state website that shows campaign
contributions and lobbying activity.
Another bill passed by the Senate, provides that clergy would
not be required to perform marriages against their beliefs, such as
same-sex marriages.
In the Assembly, a measure that would allow residents to
register to vote up to Election Day passed.
It would change the current requirement of registration at
least 15 days before an election.
