The Delta Vision Foundation report card evaluates 13 state groups responsible for the future of the delta, everyone from the legislature to the State Water Resources Control Board. Agencies received "C" grades on delta security and water supply reliability.
Foundation president Sunne Wright McPeak says the report sounds a loud alarm about:
WRIGHT-MCPEAK: "The precarious position that the delta is in, the exposure that the ecosystem has to simply crumbling, and that the water supply reliability for California --our $2 trillion economy-- is definitely at risk."
Wright-McPeak says first the state should fix the failing levees and then move on to developing long-term solutions for protecting the Delta.
How to fix the imperiled Delta ecosystem is a politically charged issue. Not all parties agree on the science, let alone the best way to protect this vital water supply.
