Juli Jensen is the County's Agricultural Commissioner and Director of Weights and Measures. She says the department is losing $500,000 because of state budget cuts to the California Department of Agriculture. That money will probably cost another agricultural inspector and two other employees their jobs.
JENSEN: "The loss of these people is going to cause our exclusion and detection programs to decrease, therefore increasing the likelihood of pest infestations in Sacramento County."
Currently, there are Japanese Beetle and Light Brown Apple Moth infestations in the county.
Jensen says her department is already doing the work of some other departments when appropriate. She says pesticide-use inspectors will conduct hazardous waste inspections next year.
