The City of Sacramento's Department of Utilities has issued a "Spare the Water" Alert and is asking people to conserve water this weekend.
An alert is issued when there is a forecast of three consecutive days of 100-degree heat.
The department says high temperatures cause people to use more water which strains the City's ability to treat and store enough clean water.
The Department of Utilities recommends reducing watering times by 1-to-2 minutes per cycle and turning off the faucet while washing or brushing.
This is the first "Spare the Water" alert called this year.
