California Lawmakers Weigh in on Supreme Court Immigration Ruling

Democratic Assemblyman Gil Cedillo is a long-time immigrants' rights advocate.  He says he's glad the court struck down several parts of Arizona's law….including one requiring immigrants to carry registration papers:

Cedillo:"Very pleased that we have a constitution that doesn't respond to the hysteria of the day."

The court upheld a controversial provision that allows officers to check the immigration status of people they arrest for other reasons.  That pleased Tea Party Assemblyman Tim Donnelly:

Donnelly:  "I think there's going to be a lot of pressure to make this a state law in California."

Donnelly has tried unsuccessfully in the past to get an Arizona-style law adopted in California.  He says the court's decision may sway voters to vote more conservatively in this year's election.
