AAA says 4.8 million Californians are predicted to travel over the Independence Day holiday…
"…these are the highest numbers we have seen in California since the year 2003."
Cynthia Harris is with AAA of Northern California.
Based on the auto club's latest survey, the number of people
traveling will be up 5.2% over last year. Harris says normally when
most people leave home they stay with family and friends…but the
unusual mid-week holiday has modified that trend.
"This survey indicates that people will be staying away
from home longer and willing to spend a night or two at a hotel and
then stay with family and friends, so they're sort of mixing it
up."
The AAA survey finds that an average road trip will cover more
than 650 miles and a family of four will spend an average of $807
over the holiday.
