Robbers Fire Slows Some Business In Colfax

Colfax has a quilt shop, antique stores and restaurants and bars. Frank Klein is President of the Colfax Chamber of Commerce. He says there haven't been as many tourists in town lately.

"It's definitely been slower that I've seen. And I'm just hoping that it does end quickly so we can all get back to some normalcy."

The Red Frog bar and grill sits about a mile outside of town, on Highway 174. Most of their customers are locals.

Randy Brock with the Red Frog says people are worried about the Robbers Fire jumping the American River and reaching Colfax.

"Oh yeah, that's what everybody's talking about - the main topic."

Meanwhile, Brock says business has actually been about the same.

"It makes more of a difference when the fire is closer to us. It's like we can see the smoke but really can't see the flame unless it's night time. As long as it doesn't jump over the river, we're fine."

The Robbers Fire began last Wednesday.
