An Alameda County measure would double a half-cent sales tax to pay for transportation projects.  Los Angeles County might ask voters to extend its own transportation sales tax.  And in Sacramento, there's talk of a city sales tax increase for police, fire and parks.

Steinberg: "I respect and understand what's going on in our city and the need to fund basic services, including the public safety services."
