An Alameda County measure would double a half-cent sales tax to pay for transportation projects. Los Angeles County might ask voters to extend its own transportation sales tax. And in Sacramento, there's talk of a city sales tax increase for police, fire and parks.
Steinberg: "I respect and understand what's going on in our city and the need to fund basic services, including the public safety services."
But, says State Senate Leader Darrell Steinberg - who was a Sacramento City Council member before moving to the legislature…
Steinberg: "I am concerned about too many measures - of course. The most important measure, in my view, is the governor's."
The Los Angeles Unified School District agrees - and delayed its proposed parcel tax because it needs the governor's tax measure more.
