The Sacramento area unemployment rate held relatively steady in July. It was 10.7% - down by only a-tenth-of-a-percent from June. Construction led gains - growing by 1,900 jobs.
"It usually only gains 400 jobs - that's our average from June to July going back to 1990, and this month's change of 1,900 jobs was nearly quadruple that average."
Justin Wehner is with the state Employment Development Department which
released the numbers. He says the total number of jobs located in
the region increased in the past year by nearly 3% or 21,800.
"It's been about six years since we've seen a
year-over-year gain at the level of 21,800 jobs. So it's good to
see and we hope it continues next month."
On the downside…state and local government led
month-over-month job losses in July, declining by 6,400 jobs.
