The federal health program for people over 65 doesn't cover most dental care.

Adults in the state's Medi-Cal system don't have much dental coverage either.

PAN: "If we're going to be effective in taking care of people, we got to take care of their entire body."

Democratic Assemblymember and Doctor Richard Pan carried the joint resolution.

He says seniors are at higher risk for oral health problems.

And he says studies show the health system saves money when it covers dental care.

PAN: "These oral health problems lead to physical problems which are being covered and paid for."

Support for the resolution was split along party lines.

The State's call for federal action will be read in a message sent through the mail.
