Faced with a $28 million deficit, the district's school board had some tough decisions to make over the summer.
"Because of our budget situation in California we've virtually eliminated our home-to-school transportation."
That's Jonathan Raymond - Superintendent of the Sacramento City
Unified School District. He says many of the 130 bus routes
have been cut but there are some exceptions, including kids in
Special Education.
There will also be limited service for students whose routes
to school include crossing railroad tracks and other safety
risks.
Fewer buses may mean more car traffic around campuses and
school officials are advising parents who drop off their kids to
leave for school a little earlier this year.
