53-percent of schools scored at or above state achievement
goals on the Academic Performance Index.
That's an increase of four percentage points over last
year.
The API scores are based on how well students improve on
standardized tests each year.
That differs from the federal model created under No Child
Left Behind which just looks at test scores.
59-percent of elementary schools, 49-percent of middle
schools, and 30-percent of high schools are now meeting
goals.
African American students and students with disabilities
showed a 14 point increase, which was the largest gain.
Latinos improved by 11 points.
But white and Asian students continue to have significantly
higher scores.
