The Urban Land Institute says the City of Sacramento should improve the way the new train depot and Railyards District connect to the rest of city.
Jess Zimbabwe is with the Institute. She says part of such a plan could include connecting 2nd street with I street and opening up access to the river and Old Sacramento, "Right now, it happens for pedestrians underneath this tangle of viaducts and onramps and all the freeway mess . And it's entirely unpleasant. It's not easy. It just really disconnects Old Sacramento form the vibrancy that's going to be happening in the Depot District."
Zimbabwe says other changes could be made to increase pedestrian traffic. They include changing many of the one-way streets in downtown back to two-way streets.
