The unemployment rate in the four-county Sacramento region was 9.7 percent in September.
"It hasn't been in single-digit territory since January of '09 which was a long time ago. So it's good to see that. We hope it continues."
That's Justin Wehner with the California Employment
Development Department which released the data.
September's 9.7 percent jobless rate was down from 10.3
percent in August…and below the year-ago rate of 11.5
percent.
Wehner says government led month-over job gains, increasing by
3,100 jobs.
"Most of it is concentrated in the local government
sub-sector and when we look inside the local government sub-sector
we see that all of the gains are in local government education
services."
…that includes jobs in public education such as community
colleges and primary schools. The healthcare and financial sectors
also saw jobs gains.
Sectors that experienced job losses include: food services;
recreation; and leisure and hospitality.
