Brooke Bingaman is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. She says this storm system marks an end to the fire weather season. As for what it means for the winter weather season…
"Well, that's the tricky part. The official outlook for this winter is that we're going to be in a weak El Nino signal."
Bingaman explains that a "weak El Nino signal" means winter
precipitation can go either way…either a lot of rain, or not so
much.
"So that means we have equal chances of being above normal
precip or below normal precip. Typically for Central and Northern
California, we need to have a really strong El Nino signal before
we can have a direct correlation to how much precipitation we're
going to get."
The current cold front is expected to drop up to two-inches of
rain on Sacramento before it leaves the area by Thursday.
