Dawn Lindblom heads up the Capital Region Chapter of the American Red Cross. She says 12 volunteers are in White Plains, New York and six are in Baltimore.
"They might be helping out with registration as folks are coming in," says Lindlom of the volunteers who left Sacramento late Saturday night and are now working in evacuation centers.
Lindblom says it was important for the volunteers to be in place before the storm hit in order to get shelters ready. She says as of Sunday night there were 112 shelters open in nine states.
Lindblom says there are more Sacramento-area volunteers ready to go if needed.
